For our last night in NYC, we went to see Clever Little Lies at the Westside Theatre at 407 West 43rd Street in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood. The building was constructed in 1890 in the Romanesque Revival style. At first, the building was used for the Second German Baptist Church, in later years as various nightclubs and finally in 1976 it was established as a Theatre. The building houses two auditoriums, the Upstairs Theatre and the Downstairs Theatre.

We arrived a little early so we had drinks in the lobby until they open the doors.

Clever Little Lies, a comedy-drama featuring Marlo Thomas, as Alice, was the off-Broadway Play picked out for us to see. Marlo Thomas has been a favorite of his for many years. The play is about Bill, Jr. Alice’s 35-year-old son with a four-month-old daughter, who is having an affair with his beautiful 23-year-old personal trainer. Certain that he cannot live without her, Jr. is prepared to leave his wife and daughter. His father, Bill, Sr., learns of the affair that morning and spills the beans to his wife as soon as he gets home. Alice immediately phones to get Jr. and his wife, Jane, to visit them that night. The lengthy final scene which follows is filled with twists and surprises.

After the play we were in the lobby when Marlo Thomas came to the door. She looked in and proceeded down the stairs. Steve took off after her and was able to get her to sign his playbill. He was thrilled.
